In no way it means that “Sang-mêlé” existed only in those communities. Yet they correspond to “cluster” where "Sang-mêlé” established and remained through the years and where we seen them being mentioned in many historical documents. Research showed us that “Sang-mêlé” kept it to themselves through time, so they correspond to “historical communities”. They are also places, where they remained in the memories of the elders. As for the Baie-des-Chaleurs, even Mi’gmaq elders still have memories of them. This site is about sharing research, not coming up with a definite description of the identity and territory of the east coast “Sang-mêlé”. It represents our understanding of the actual situation drawn out of our oral histories and the research we have made. A perception that remains flexible to new possible discoveries.
