The name of this site, Sang mêlé, is a term used in many historical documentation to mention our ancestors and it simply means, Mixed-blood or Half-breed. But it is also inspired by conversations with Rejean O’bomsawin, an Abenaki elder, who motivated us to take charge of our history and to stop allowing others to define who we are. He wrote a book named : “Sang-mêlé”, with Maureen Martineau and Jacinthe Laliberte. It does not mean that Mr. O’bomsawin is supporting any specific cause or that the content of this site reflect his views at all. Yet he does agree with the importance to reconnect with our roots and start to work together.
